Throwing it back in real life would be pretty damn hazardous and frankly not all that common (sure it happens, but not every time you toss a damn grenade, in the entire playing of a game a grenade should only be tossed back probably once and even so that may be exaggerated). People are surprised and don't react fast enough, or they fumble it. Because the grenade comes down and you only have a few seconds to grab it and throw it back. How often in real life do people throw back grenades? I bet it isn't that often. I think the kicking/throwing back of grenades thing is a bit over done. It's not, I think, the kind of thing you'd see every day, but it happened all the time in RTCW, at least when I played it. Plus the sacrificing thing - not that the RTCW was intended to be the most realistic WWII game, but it takes a pretty insane or dedicated person to throw themselves on a grenade. In RTCW I think there was too much throwing/kicking back grenades.
